An exceptional way to achieve this is by encouraging them to take part in study abroad programs for a certain period of time. Wonder Away proudly presents its first Costa Rica Study Abroad Program in Guanacaste from January 8 to February 5, 2024. EmpowerEd: Explore, Grow, Thrive. A self-development retreat exclusively designed for female high school students aged 14-17. This transformative program not only offers a chance to engage in online studies but also prioritize self-discovery, fostering personal growth and creating lasting memories. Welcome to EmpowerEd Girls Retreat, where education meets adventure in the heart of Tamarindo, Costa Rica! Our month-long study abroad program is crafted for female students aged 14-17. Providing them a unique opportunity to not only complete their online studies from abroad but also to explore, grow, and thrive in an environment dedicated to personal development and cultural enrichment.

A Balance of Academics and Adventure
Our EmpowerED Girls Retreat is a great opportunity for female students between the ages of 14-17, who are looking to expand their horizons. Immerse yourself in an entirely new culture and explore the natural beauty of Costa Rica at the same time. With ongoing online studies available, you can easily keep up with your schoolwork while still having room for fun. With this program, find new passions, learn new skills, and volunteer in different activities.
Whether you’re passionate about scuba diving, yoga, surfing, wildlife rescue, permaculture, or Spanish, our program covers a wide range of fascinating topics. You’ll have the opportunity to learn from experienced instructors and gain valuable insights and skills in these areas.
Beyond the thrill of new experiences, the EmpowerED Girls Retreat is a transformative journey of self-discovery. Engage in workshops that foster personal growth, allowing you to discover and nurture new passions and talents. This holistic approach not only provides valuable life experiences but also reinforces your journey toward lifelong learning and success at a young age.
Daily and Weekly Activities
Morning Routine
We’ll establish a morning routine focused on building healthy habits. We will do meditation, breathwork, and stretching exercises to kickstart the day. We’ll also prioritize a nutritious breakfast every day, making our own smoothies and bowls.
Study Hours
Our study hours are dedicated to completing schoolwork, ranging from 1 to 3 hours each day. Whether it’s in the morning or after lunch, we’ll find the right time for focused learning. A tutor will also be on board if anyone needs extra support.
Self-Development Workshops
We immerse ourselves in short yet impactful 60-90 minute workshops focused on personal development. Explore themes like stepping out of your comfort zone and taking intentional breaks from the digital world. These sessions are designed to facilitate self-discovery, encouraging personal growth in a supportive and engaging environment.
Sunset & Evening Activities
Most evenings we’ll take a stroll on the beach or head to a nearby lookout point to catch the sunset. Some days we will play beach volleyball, beach tennis, or do a short stretching and yoga. Social cooking, movie nights and games are also on the agenda. It’s a mix of relaxation and fun to make every evening special.
Cultural Immersion
We’ll get to know the local culture by visiting local farms and markets, learning to cook local dishes, and picking up some Spanish along the way. We’ll also try out salsa dancing and join in the fun at local celebrations, gaining a deeper understanding of the Costa Rican “tico” culture.
Creative Hours
We will provide a space to unleash creativity through enjoyable activities such as painting, pottery, or even learning to make your own kombucha. These sessions are designed to be relaxed and enjoyable, offering the opportunity to discover and nurture artistic talents in a supportive environment.
Adventure Days
Discover Costa Rica’s hidden gems! Once a week, we embark on an adventure to some of the best tours, most beautiful beaches, boat rides and waterfalls. Scuba diving and snorkeling, surf lessons, sunset boat tour, La Leona Waterfall hike, turtle watching tour, camping, and more. Every other week we will enjoy sleepovers and visits to national parks, providing a change of scenery and more fun experiences.
Volunteer Service
We will dedicate Sunday afternoons to making a positive impact through Volunteer Service. Choose from opportunities like assisting at Monkey Park animal rescue center, engaging in permaculture initiatives, or participating in beach cleanups. It’s a chance to give back to the community and contribute to meaningful causes while creating lasting memories.
