Keep your spring break Costa Rica memorable by visiting the beautiful beaches of Guanacaste. Playa Tamarindo is a great spot to experience the perfect combination of beach, surf and sunsets any day of the year. Here you can relax on an exotic beach, or if you’re feeling adventurous, challenge yourself with a surfing session.

The area has incredible breaks suitable for all levels – from beginner to expert. 30 minutes away from Tamarindo there is Playa Avellanas (down south) or Playa Grande (up north). Playa Negra and Marbella are also great for advanced surfers and are fun ones to hit for the day.

If surfing isn’t your thing, we highly suggest that you explore some of the beaches in northern Guanacaste – they are truly incredible!

Waterfall Hike

There are also great spots for cliff jumping if you want some more excitement. Returning from the waterfalls, as a reward, we will stop by at the hot springs and the mud baths to relax and recharge. This hike is challenging but can be suitable-for-all-ages.

Hand in hand with the 2025 Spring Break Costa Rica, Easter is just around the corner too. This means it’s time to get festive! Whether you live in Tamarindo or are just visiting, there are plenty of ways to celebrate. Here are some of our recommendations:

• Fiestas de Villarreal | TBA: the festivities typically start on Wednesday or Thursday, run throughout the weekend with bull ride, Costa Rican dance performances, live music, street food, and more.
• Semana Santa/ Easter Week | April 13-20: one of the busiest but most festive days in Tamarindo, ideal for spring breakers.
• Salsa Night at CATA Agave Bar | every Wednesday: one of the most popular events in town every Wednesday. Salsa class starts at 7:30pm, free dancing is from 8:30pm to 12pm. Location: the bar above Nogui’s Beach Restaurant. If you happen to miss the salsa on Wednesday visit Central Tamarindo on Thursday for some more salsa.
• Live Music | every night at the following locations: OCHO Beach Club (DJ), El Be Club (Live Band or DJ), Chiquitas Bar, El Vaqueros (Band).
  

There’s no shortage of concerts and beach festivities taking place: fire shows, bonfires, happy hour deals, salsa dance, live DJ’s and much more. Don’t forget about local parades celebrating the season. These have been staples in the community for many years and make for a memorable experience.

Tamarindo has a great nightlife scene, with plenty of bars and clubs to choose from. Whether you’re looking to dance the night away or just have a few drinks with friends, you’ll find what you’re looking for here. Here is a short summary of the different bars and clubs we have in town.

CATA Agave Bar, Handle Bar or Tabu Tamarindo – bars to start the night at.

• CATA is open open all week from 4pm until 11pm. Located right on the beach, it’s the perfect spot for a beautiful sunset specialty cocktail. • Handle Bar is a craft beer bar, with a local brewery’s selection. Open all week from 2pm.
• Visit Tabú for sunset & great cocktails accompanied by live music to start your night off right. Open every day.

Chiquitas, Rumors, Ocho Beach Club or El Garito – trendy bars with electronic music. Check their Instagram page for up to date information.

• Chiquitas is open every day from 8am to 2am everyday, except Monday.
• Rumors – they serve one of the best gin tonics in town, accompanied by groovy house music by liv DJ’s.
• El Garito has Art Gallery & Artist Performances every Friday, starting at 9pm.
• Ocho Beach Club is a restaurant and lounge right on the beach. Resident DJ’s playing sunset vibes all weekend long.

Sharky’s, White Lotus, Crazy Monkey or Chiquitas – all the clubs with reggae, reggaeton and dance music. Here are our top recommendations for each day.

• Monday: Ladies Night (free drinks) in Sharky’s.
• Tuesday: karaoke party at Sharky’s.
• Wednesdays are for a crazy dance party in the White Lotus Night Club.
• Thursday is for the Tamarindo Moonlight Market from 5:30pm until 9:30pm.
• Fridays are the only night at the Crazy Monkey by the Best Western Hotel. You can also just grab some drinks and dance a little at Rumors in the heart of town.
• Saturdays are for some Reggaeton at Chiquitas Bar.
• Sunday’s beer pong at Sharky’s with a mix of electronic dance and reggaeton.
  

When you head out to go shopping, make sure to stop by some of the unique boutiques around town. Whether you’re looking for the perfect swimwear for your beach getaway, or a handcrafted item from Costa Rica, there’s something here for everyone. We also recommend visiting the:

Farmer’s Market on Saturdays. You’ll find fresh fruits, vegetables, as well as coffee, cheese, fish & meat and other local products.

Don’t forget to check out the beauty care section that carries items made with natural ingredients like moringa oil so your skin will be glowing with good health! Shopping around town can be a wonderfully rewarding experience, so don’t miss out on these great deals and hidden gems.

It’s no surprise that foodies from all over the world make their way to Tamarindo. From a variety of breakfast spots serving up delicious dishes, to authentic Costa Rican cuisine, and even international cuisine, this town offers a variety of dining experiences. Whether you’re looking for dinner and drinks in the evening, or just a quick bite during lunchtime, you will find the right place for you. Here are a few of our favorite spots.

• • Breaking Bread – the place to go for pastries and a filling breakfast or brunch. They are open from 7am.
  • Noi – they offer smoothies, acai bowls and a lot of healthy options. Open from 7:30am to 4pm.
  • Santa Rita Cafe – a must if you want to try the local breakfast. It’s open from 8 am to 3:30 pm, and ideal for brunch or lunch as well.

• • Pico Bistro – lunch with live music, located on the beach. A great choice after a morning surf session.
  • Bamboo Sushi Club – the best sushi in town, offering lunch specials.
  • Agua Salada – never better than a refreshing ceviche during the hot days. Open from Wednesday to Sunday from 12pm – 10pm.

• • El Mercadito – a must-try when it comes to dinner. El Mercadito is a gourmet food court with a variety of international cuisine: poke bowl, arepas de Venezuela, Argentinian-, Mexican-, Asian-, and of course Costa Rican food. Open until 10pm.
  • Little Lucha – it’s a tiny Mexican place, but everybody loves it. For Taco Tuesday it can get very crowded, but they have daily special deals throughout the whole week. Open until 9pm.
  • Dragonfly Bar and Grill
  • Fish & Cheese – one of the best burgers in Playa Langosta. Open until 9pm.
